Sucu: Business sector is dependent on signals from the state

Ziarul Financiar 05.07.2009
Businessman Dan Sucu, who controls Mobexpert furniture group, says that over the last few months the business environment has adapted to the idea of survival rather than profitability, and that the business is dependent on signals from the state. "I never thought the private environment could ever rely on getting something from the state. I always thought the private sector could carry Romania forward without Government help. The unfortunate thing is that currently private companies can no longer adapt to the current realities, and are dependent on the state adapting to the new realities. That is why my greatest fear concerns their inability to adapt," Sucu told ZF. Mobexpert operates in an industry deeply affected by the economic crisis, with the majority of players in the furniture industry reporting declines in the first few months of the year. The Mobexpert group, the largest player in the industry, saw its sales down by 5% in RON (by 20% in euros) in the first three months of the year.
