George Copos, the owner of seven hotels with 1,000 rooms part
of the Ana Hotels company, posted 26% decline in turnover in RON
last year, the steepest decline of his hotel business in recent
years. "Last year I had more than 110 million RON (26 million
euros) in turnover from Ana Hotels, 26% less in RON than in 2008,
one of the best years of the company," Copos said. Ana Hotels
posted 41 million-euro turnover in 2008, more than half of which
generated by the five-star Hilton and Crowne Plaza hotels, which
the businessman owns in Bucharest. He also owns Europa and Astoria
in Eforie Nord, as well as Sportul, Bradul and Poiana in Poiana
Brasov. George Copos, the backer of the Rapid Bucharest football
team, still managed to end the year in the black as far as his
hospitality industry business is concerned, after having also made
profit from the electrical engine manufacturer Ana Imep based in
Pitesti.
The businessman did not say exactly how much the profit
was worth.
