Five car brands present on the Romanian market witnessed sales
growth in January, on a market that shrank by 50% compared with the
same month of last year. The advance reported by Ford, BMW, Audi,
Porsche and Mini in January may be a first signal car sales will
revert to an upward trend this year, after more than 15 months of
decline, according to the data provided by car market players. On
the other hand, only Ford, among high volume brands, managed to
boost its sales, while the other four brands are part of the
premium segment, where monthly sales amount to 100 cars at the
highest. Just like in December, the top two positions in the
best-selling car brands ranking are held by brands with
manufacturing operations in Romania, Dacia and Ford.
This year's
car sales rally is based both on the launch of the new old car
scrappage scheme, which is also open to companies, but also as a
result of the clients' changing mentality, who no longer buy a used
car from the West, but choose a new one instead.
