Lufkin, the Texan company with $500m turnover in oil and energy industry equipment and services, may invest about 300 million dollars in the industrial equipment sector, market sources say. The information comes after a meeting between Economy minister Adrian Videanu and the US Ambassador in Bucharest, Mark Gitenstein, when representatives of the Economy Ministry said that many American companies were interested in the Romanian market and "a new American company should shortly invest 300 million dollars in the field of industrial equipment in Romania," without providing further details.

"Talks are not that advanced. The company is Lufkin, a Texan company specialising in equipment for the petroleum and gas industry, as well as the energy industry. A state aid is being discussed as was the case with Ford," market sources said.

Other market sources say that a Lufkin team has recently visited Ploiesti in search of a plot of land for a potential investment.
