Mercedes-Benz Romania, one of the top five automotive importers with such brands as Mercedes-Benz, smart, Jeep and Chrysler in its portfolio might drop distribution of the three Chrysler brands this year, given that Daimler AG, which owns the Mercedes brand is no longer a shareholder of American carmaker Chrysler.

"We can confirm the talks about the future of the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicle distribution business in Romania. No decision has been made yet," said Michael Grewe, CEO and chairman of Mercedes-Benz Romania.

The three brands of the US group sold 552 units worth 16 million euros last year, according to ZF estimates, accounting for almost 5% of the total Mercedes-Benz Romania business.

The US group is now controlled by the Italians at Fiat, who bought 20% in Chrysler after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the first half of last year.
