Romania has weakest education system in EU
The Romanian education system is one of the weakest in Europe
and the weakest in the European Union, which is proven by
international tests, President Traian Basescu said yesterday at a
debate on the education law held in Parliament, which was also
attended by Education Minister Daniel Funeriu.
"The Romanian education system is the weakest in the EU in terms of
graduates' performance. This is proven not only by experts'
analyses, but also by European tests," Basescu said. He added no
change had been made to the Romanian education system, it had been
merely "patched up". "If anyone claims to have been a reformer of
the education system over the last 20 years, show them the results
of this reform: increasingly poorly prepared pupils, with less and
less chances of being competitive on the labour market," Basescu
added.
The Government is preparing a new education law, after the
education law adopted in 2009 was declared unconstitutional. The
new draft law is to be sent to Parliament after Easter.
