Dacia, the biggest carmaker in Romania, posted 9 billion RON (2.1 billion euros) in turnover last year, an increase of 17.8% on the 7.64 billion RON in 2008, according to the financial reports of the company, quoted by Mediafax.
Dacia therefore climbed to the second position in the ranking of private companies in Romania after Petrom, which posted 3 billion euros in turnover, leaving Mittal Galati behind, which saw its business shrink by one billion euros last year. The results published by companies so far reveal that Dacia is the only top five private company to have posted growth in turnover.
The net profit of the company, which is part of the French group Renault rose by 3.7% last year to 230 million RON (54 million euros), compared with 222.2 million RON (60.3 million euros) in 2008, according to the data previously revealed by the company in the report of the merger by absorption with the Auto Chassis International branch published in the Official Gazette.
The turnover growth was driven by exports, which went up 87% to 6.11 billion RON.
