Solvent loan demand is very fragile as there are no solid
turnover growth conditions at least for the time being, and NBR's
interest cuts do not automatically drive loan interests down
because it is hard to finance medium and long-term RON loans with
resources attracted on short term, states Misu Negritoiu, ING Bank
general manager. "(...) The market is still being cleaned up and
business models are resettling, but on the basis of the experience
gained during the crisis, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to
embark upon more solid businesses, with sound growth, even though
they have to change fields". The banker says entrepreneurs have now
learnt they can no longer make money easily, without serious ideas
and structured projects, "they have learnt to think of the worst
first".
"In Romania, SMEs have rather been vehicles through which
various deals and transfers were operated, brokers among large
businesses, with very few of them having medium-term
thinking".
