Renault Mecanique Roumanie might supply gearboxes to the Daimler group following a partnership signed by the Renault Nissan alliance and the German carmaker yesterday.

"The partnership was signed between Renault and Daimler yesterday. Chances are that gearboxes will be made at the mechanical plant for Daimler as part of this partnership," said Constantin Stroe, vice-president of Automobile Dacia.

The agreement of the two automotive groups entails cooperation on city cars, Renault Twingo and smart, as well as on commercial utility vehicles so that Mercedes Benz could build a utility vehicle using the Renault Kangoo line. Therefore Uzina Mecanica Dacia (Dacia Mechanical Plant) could manufacture gearboxes for the new Mercedes utility model and for the smart city car made in France and Slovakia.

Uzina Mecanica Dacia, which opened in March 2008 and is currently employing 2,000 people, is already making gearboxes for Dacia and for Renault models (Clio, Megane, Laguna), as well as for Nissan (Tiida, Note and Qashqai).
