Basescu announces 15% pension cuts, 25% salary cuts and subsidy cuts
President Traian Basescu said on Thursday that pensions would
fall by 15%, public sector wages by 25%, minimum wage included,
with subsidies to be "drastically cut", and the money allocated
specifically to "those in need of financial aid".
President Traian Basescu said on Thursday there were people and
channels seeking to perpetuate a state of mistrust in the state's
institutions among the population, adding that he wanted to let the
population know it could trust the president, the Government, and
Parliament in the context of the crisis.
The head of state said there were people and TV channels
"deliberately perpetuating a state of mistrust."
"Romanians can rest assured that the Government, Parliament, and
the president know what they need to do in the current economic
context," said the president.
B`sescu said on Tuesday, the 4th of May at 12:00 he met with the
PM, the Governor of the National Bank (NBR), with ministers in
economy-related fields, and with NBR experts. On the same day, at
17:00, he said he had met members of the IMF, EU, and World Bank
evaluation team.
Basescu said on Wednesday 5th of May, at 11:00 he talked with the
PM and the NBR Governor, as well as with a large number of
ministers in economy-related fields.
On Thursday 6th of May at 9:30 AM, B`sescu talked to leaders of
political structures and parties that support the Government, and
with the IMF delegation at 14:30.
