Wind farms pros and cons

The high number of wind energy projects expected to become operational in the following years is raising several questions about the safety of the national energy system, dividing market experts into two camps: some of them believe the operations of Cernavoda reactors or thermoelectric power stations are likely to be threatened, while others say these projects will not cause any problems up to a certain limit of installed capacity. Stipulations of Law 220/2008 say that irrespective of national energy consumption at a certain moment, renewable energy will be the first to be loaded in the system, which may lead to the halt of some conventional facilities at the moment of inappropriate energy consumption. Moreover, experts say investors in wind farms have only incentives, but no obligation with regard to preserving energy system security. Experts say, though, that concerns related to the threat to Cernavoda reactors are unfounded as, despite applications for projects of above 20,000 MW, just the 3,000 MW practically meaning the system limit, will materialise at best.
