Seven Brasov inhabitants, shareholders of Policlinica de Diagnostic Rapid (Rapid Diagnosis Polyclinic) in Brasov, collected 3.5 million euros from the sale of an 80% stake in the company to MedLife, one of the biggest operators on the Romanian market. Lately, amid extension of big operators, increasingly more shareholders of small clinics sold their stakes, with such transactions, though rather small, being among the few to be completed.

At the end of last year Centrul Medical Unirea (Unirea Medical Centre - CMU) bought a majority stake in a Bacau-based clinic from the Bujeni]` family, with the transaction amounting to one million euros. In 2008, CMU also took over 50% in Constan]a-based clinics Avanmedica for 0.7 million euros from the Diculescu family. In the same year the company paid 0.5 million euros to become a shareholder of Centrul Medical Mo]ilor in Cluj Napoca.

"We believe this to be a natural step in the development and evolution of the medical business," said Cosmin R`[in`, general manager and one of the shareholders of the Brasov polyclinic (with 4% of the shares). Other shareholders of the company purchased by MedLife are Ileana Cristina Voss (15.99%), Radu-Iulina Popeia (15.99%), Emanuil Gheorghi]` (15.99%), Mihai-Stelian Varciu (15.99%), Cosmina Oproiu (15.99%), Claudia Simona Varciu (15.99%). Each sold in proportion to their stake. None of the shareholders fully exited the company.
