Travel agencies selling holidays by plane to Greek islands
make almost 1.4m euros per week, a level almost similar with last
year's, according to a ZF survey based on the number of charter
flights operated toward the Greek islands. Despite the economic
downturn and social tensions of Greece, a country where travel
contributes almost one fifth to GDP, Romanians have not given up
travelling to Crete, Rhodes, Corfu and other islands. Thus, 26
charter flights are weekly operated to Greece's islands, a level
similar with last year's meaning that almost 3,900 Romanian
tourists weekly head to destinations of this country, according to
ZF calculations, taking into account the 186-seat capacity of a
plane and an average occupancy rate of 80%.
Overall, travel
agencies are likely to derive 21m euros during June-September
period from the sale of holidays including transport by plane.
Charter flights to Greek islands are operated by Aegean Airlines,
Tarom and Romavia airlines, which have sealed partnerships with
travel agencies, according to the National Association of Travel
Agencies (ANAT).
