George Copos, one of the best-known Romanian businesspersons, controlling several hotels on the Romanian market, registered 1.35m RON (314,000 euros) revenues at Europa four-star hotel in Eforie Nord, down 5.5% in RON from a year ago. "This June, the hotel's occupancy rate reached 67.5%, from 71.6% a year ago," stated George Copos. While resorts like Mamaia, Mangalia or Navodari had fewer tourists in the first summer month, Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud had three times more tourists on average per day. Whereas APDL (Association for Promotion and Development of the Romanian Seaside) data show the number of tourists accommodated in Eforie Nord and Sud was higher this June, hotels saw only 50% occupancy rate, given that the two resorts' can accommodate a total of 10,803. Europa hotel, operating 221 rooms, is the only four-star hotel of Eforie Nord. The price per night of a double room, including breakfast, stands at 114 euros. The hotel generated turnover worth almost 10.4m RON (2.5m euros) in 2009. "The hotel saw its occupancy rate fall as a result of the crisis that started becoming visible in 2009, particularly on the conference and leisure segments," said the hotel's officials.
