Sales of electronics and IT&C products continue to go down
The domestic consumer goods market contracted by 15% to 266m euros in the second quarter, from 316m euros, according to a survey by GfK market research firm, with the value being lower than in the first quarter, of 271m euros.
In the IT field, sales slid by 20.5% to 69m euros. According to
GfK, notebooks boasted the biggest sales among all the products on
this segment, but could not reverse the negative trend of the
overall market.
Nevertheless, the research company points out that the decline
slowed down against the first quarter of 2010, when the market
dropped by 38.2% to 80m euros.
Also, Romanians spent 28.5% less on mobile phones in the second
quarter against a year ago, with the hardware telecom market
hitting 39m euros. The office equipment segment saw sales go down
by 28.9%, the weakest trend among those monitored by GfK in the
second quarter.
The field of consumer electronics was the only one among those
watched by GfK that expanded in the second quarter. The market grew
by 1.3%, reaching sales of 55m euros, with the products in highest
demand being flat screen TV sets and video game consoles. For the
rest of electronics, growth rates stayed in negative
territory.
