Poiana chocolate plant of Braşov finally closed
Poiana chocolate plant of Braşov, which has been through three
political regimes in about 100 years and was US-based Kraft Foods'
first investment in Romania, has completely shut down with the
transfer of the last two lines to Ghimbav, to a plant owned by RAP
Group.
RAP Group, a former equipment supplier of Kraft, has this month
started production for the US company in a new location in Ghimbav,
Braşov county. The group controlled by businessman Radu Popeia of
Braşov is likely to launch its own confectionery brands, but so far
has not registered any trademark with the State Office for
Inventions and Trademarks.
Investments in the chocolate plant of Ghimbav, with a 4,500 square
metre area, can be put at over 5m euros. Around 70 people currently
work in this location.
"The employees RAP took over from Kraft Foods were transferred to
the Ghimbav plant," specified Kraft Foods Romania
representatives.
Most production lines of Poiana plant were transferred to a plant
Kraft Foods owns in Bulgaria in late 2009, so that most products of
the US company's domestic portfolio are imported.
