Medical equipment market drops 40%
The medical equipment market, an annual business worth over a
hundred million euros, fell by around 35-40% this year according to
estimates by GE Healthcare, one of the leading players in the
sector.
"At this time one can notice a decline in demand in the private
sector. Among the explanations are the decline in the funders' risk
appetite, which shows in expensive funding offers, at least when
compared against the 2007-2008 period, the rise in the risk profile
of operators because of the decline in revenues, as well as the
technological depreciation and lower appetite for development
because of cash flow problems," said Radu Lupu-Gorduza, GE
Healthcare zone manager for Romania and the Republic of
Moldova.
GE Healthcare posted over 20 million euros in sales last year on
the Romanian market, both directly through General Electric Medical
Systems Romania SRL, and through other commercial partners.
On the medical equipment market, estimated at over 150 million
euros, GE Healthcare competes with Siemens and Philips.
