Boagiu admits to disastrous results of Transport Ministry
Anca Boagiu, Transport and Infrastructure Minister, admits that
the results of the ministry whose reins she took earlier in
September have been disastrous, and announced the removal of Dorina
Tiron from her position as general manager of the National
Motorways and Roads Company (CNADNR).
"The accountability for these disastrous results for Romania has to
be management-related, as well, not only political, because they
hurt the absorption of EU infrastructure funds, both pre-accession
ones, and funds for the Sectoral Operational Programme - Transport.
Mrs. Tiron's explanations have not been conclusive and I am not
willing to tolerate this display of managerial inefficiency," said
Anca Boagiu, who ordered an inspection at the CNADNR, which found
that the company's management had been poor both at administrative
level, and in relation to construction companies and consultancies.
One explanation could also lie with the fact that the person in
charge of motorways, Adrian Ionescu, is trained in agricultural
science.
Boagiu also specified the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure
(MTI) needs to be the leading actor when it comes to the absorption
of EU funds, which are vital for the relaunch of the Romanian
economy. So far, MTI has absorbed only 1.8% of the 2 billion euros
allocated by the EU for 2007-2010.
Contacted by ZF, former Transport Minister Radu Berceanu said he
did not wish to comment on the results of the Transport Ministry
and on the statement of the current minister.
