CEZ makes first million euros in one month from green certificates produced by wind in Fântânele

The investment of Czech Republic's CEZ energy group in the Fântânele wind farm is starting to generate the first money. In August alone, the energy generated by the less than 90 wind mills installed at that moment brought the Czech firm around 1m euros from the green certificates it received. In a complete operational year, though, the Czech firm would make around 42m euros from green certificate with the 139 turbines of Fântânele.
"In August, actually the first month when we started receiving green certificates, we produced 18 GWh of energy through the turbines that were operational at that time. In August, we had less than 90 turbines installed," stated Adrian Borotea, corporate affairs manager with CEZ Romania.
The green certificates besides mandatory quotas on renewable energy are the mechanism by which investments in energy production from renewable sources are supported in Romania.
For the time being, in Romania, for each MWh produced from wind sources a green certificate is awarded and after the new law promoting investments in the field comes into effect, the number of certificates will go up to two.
Investments in the wind farm of Fântânele amount to over 600m euros.
