Microsoft, the world's biggest software producer, sold over 240,000 licences of the Windows 7 operating system in the year since its launch.

"One year since the launch of Windows 7 in Romania, it sold over 240,000 copies through OEM (licences installed on new computers), retail, and volume licensing sales channels. Considering the difficult context of the IT market in Romania, and the 21% adoption rate on the Romanian market, according to StatCounter data, the performance is rather impressive and demonstrates the Romanian users' enthusiasm for this operating system," Tudor Galoş, Windows Business Group Lead with Microsoft Romania, told ZF. Retail prices for Windows 7 available in an online store start from 495 RON for an upgrade from Windows Vista (the operating system launched prior to Windows 7) for the "Home Premium" basic version, and reach 1,430 RON for the "Ultimate" version acquired without an upgrade.
