The Communications and Information Society Ministry (MCSI) is due to reveal in the next two or three months a new strategy on the shift to digital television, in sync with the decisions of the EU Council's decision in this field, Communications Minister Valerian Vreme stated yesterday. "There is a ministry department in charge with drawing up this strategy," Vreme stated.

Asked about the way the ministry will act in terms of granting of a licence to a state-controlled entity, Vreme said the "pluses and minuses" or several choices are being considered.

The government in August decided to postpone the date on which analogue television is to cease transmission by three years, to January 1, 2015, accounting for its decision by the need to avoid making citizens buy new equipment in a crisis period and to secure a reasonable term for operators to adapt.
