Consumers and companies totalled almost 14.7 billion RON (3.45
billion euros) in overdue loans by the end of September, which
accounted for 6.3% of the total amounts due to banks, NBR data
reveal.
The amount of overdue loans has doubled in the past year,
considering they stood at almost 7 billion RON in the autumn of
2009. Three quarters of the total overdue loans were past due by
more than 90 days, and as such booked as "losses" by banks.
The number of clients - both individuals and companies, with
past due loans rose by almost 4,000 to 242,000 in September,
accounting for more than one quarter of the total debts. In the
first nine months of this year the number of clients with overdue
loans went up by more than 20% compared with December 2009, while
the number of debtors shrank by 1.26%.
