Ranking of largest drug distributors in Romania

Nearly 40 drug distributors are active on the Romanian market, with the biggest one, Mediplus, holding a 19.27% share of the retail market (distribution to drugstores), according to data in Ropharma's prospectus for admission to trading.

"The wholesale of pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products is a competitive market, which includes several economic operators with varying market shares, the most important of which are Mediplus, Farmexpert, Fildas, Relad, Farmexim, Polisano, ADM Farm and Europharm Distribuţie," reads the report.
Drug distributors are considered to be the biggest players on this market, boasting much higher turnovers than those of drug manufacturers. Most distributors work with several manufacturers, but there are also distributors controlled by manufacturers, such as is the case of the special divisions of Sindan and Terapia.
Over time, the shareholders behind distributors have developed their own drugstore chains. Sensiblu is part of the A&D Pharma group, which also includes Mediplus, Catena is held by Anca Vlad, who also controls Fildas, and Help Net is part of the Farmexim group.
