Boosting deals with CEE governments and public institutions will be a priority in the following period for Taiwan's Asus company, one of the world's biggest PC producers, which hopes it will this way secure the leading position in the region in terms of computer sales.

Sales particularly related to the consumer and corporate segment have propelled Asus among the top three companies on the PC markets of Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and Ukraine, according to company data. In the third quarter of this year, Asus ranked second in the region that also includes Romania on the netbook market, with sales of almost one million units. Asus is the second biggest company on the Romanian PC market as well, behind another Taiwanese company, Acer.

Asus last year made 7.6bn dollars in revenues, 44% of which were brought by Europe. A third of revenues posted in Europe come from the central and eastern region.

"For next year, we've budgeted a 20-30% increase in the number of units sold in Europe. For CEE, a market that still has growth potential, we count on 35% higher deliveries," said Erich Chen, vice-president with Asus, during a meeting with Eastern European journalists.
