Decathlon set to open at least three stores next year
Decathlon French sporting goods retailer, owning five stores domestically, announced it will reach at least 20 stores in Romania in ten years, but the retailer's representatives do not provide information about the number of stores due to be opened next year, saying talks are still underway.
Attending the opening of the fifth store of the company, in
Grand Arena shopping centre of Bucharest, Florin Truşcă, in charge
with expansion at Decathlon Romania, and Alexandru Dragomir, store
manager, chose not to provide any information about the company's
financial figures or investment budgets. "We have nothing to do
with the financial side of the business, so we cannot give you any
figures".
The company's representatives said, though, that expansion targeted
large cities, with over 300,000 inhabitants. So far, there are
stores in Bucharest (2), Iaşi, Cluj and Braşov. For next year, the
only cities Decathlon officials mentioned are Craiova, Constanţa
and Timişoara. They admitted, though, that Decathlon was in talks
for other cities as well, and that plans could materialise no later
than next year.
