ArcelorMittal Galaţi set to restart furnaces
Romania's biggest iron-and-steel complex ArcelorMittal Galaţi, controlled by billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, will in early January restart the furnace stopped a month ago on the falling orders from Turkey.
Thus, the furnace will be restarted two weeks earlier than the
representatives of the complex had originally announced and it will
operate at 50-60% of its capacity, according to ZF estimates.
The company's representatives did not specify by edition close why
they decided to restart the furnace earlier.
At the same time, they expect to also restart the biggest furnace
of the complex next summer, with a capacity of 2 million tonnes,
which was shut down in November 2008. Thus, starting the second
half of 2011, ArcelorMittal Galaţi production is likely to revert
to full capacity for the first time since the onset of the
crisis.
"Despite the difficult economic environment, ArcelorMittal is
investing further in Galaţi to maintain its production level by
using more secure, better and reliable equipment, such as the
upgraded furnace no. 5, set to become a key piece of equipment to
ensure the competitiveness of the complex," say ArcerlorMittal
Galaţi representatives.
