How much will pollution tax be worth as of January 1st?
The most economical new cars will be subject to a pollution tax
of 50 euros as of January 1st, with its value growing to nearly
1,900 euros for over 4.0-litre engine cars, such as is the case of
the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse saloon cars.
The lowest pollution tax for a car among the top-sellers on the
Romanian market starts from around 70 euros, according to data from
the Environment Ministry and is aimed at 1.2-litre engines that
power models such as Dacia Logan, Volkswagen Polo and Renault
Symbol. As far as the best-selling imported cars are concerned, the
biggest taxes are those levied on models with 1.6-litre engine,
such as Ford Focus and Skoda Octavia, with the tax climbing to
nearly 330 euros in some cases.
The payment procedure will remain the same, according to officials
of the National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF). They said the
new tax calculator will become available on the ANAF website in the
first part of this week, with Fiscal Administration offices already
collecting money for the new pollution tax.
As of January 1st, only cars with engines that meet Euro 5 emission
standards or above can be sold on the European market, with Euro 4
ones being available for sale only second-hand and only if
registered before January 31st.
