Romania vies with other countries in the region for new Siemens plant
Germany's Siemens is looking at the Romanian market with a view to expanding its production capacities as the exports of equipment manufactured by the almost 1,000 people working in the giant's plants in Sibiu and Buzia[ were the only business segment that saw growth last year.
Siemens owns four production centres domestically, which last
year merged generating a single entity. According to statements by
the company's representatives, the process was achieved without any
layoffs.
"Last year, the only segment that posted large increases against
2009 was manufacturing. We have around 1,000 people on the
manufacturing segment, now grouped in a single entity, making
equipment for markets such as Germany or Austria. Owing to this
favourable trend, we're mulling the expansion of Romanian
production capacities for 2011," stated Cristian Seco[an, general
manager of Siemens.
He did not provide further detail on this issue, specifying no
decision had been made yet as the domestic market was competing
with other neighbouring states.
