Good signs in furniture industry: Silvarom to resume exports after four years

Silvarom furniture producer of Bucharest is in talks to resume exports this year, with Germany as the main destination.

"We gave up exports at the moment the RON/euro exchange rate went below 3.6 RON. Now, the rate is good, but it takes the right product and price to enter," said Ioan Mărginean, financial manager of Silvarom.
The company has recently participated in the furniture fair of Cologne, Germany, where it held talks with German companies to restart deliveries on this market. Silvarom started exporting in 2007, when the entire industry cut its exposure on European markets and focused on Romania. Its giving up exports was immediately reflected in turnover, as before 2007 deliveries abroad generated around 10m euros.
"I am more upbeat than last year and I believe one of recovery directions is given by exports". Exports are likely to bring 1m euros in the company's accounts this year, a sum that, though not high, can be a significant signal for the furniture market.
