eMag targets 150m-euro sales this year
eMag, the biggest online retailer on the Romanian market, posted
102 million euros in turnover last year, up 60% against 2009, while
the online electronics & IT retail market rose to 145 million
euros.
Iulian Stanciu, general manager of eMag, says last year's results
had to do with the introduction of new product and service ranges,
and with attracting a large number of corporate clients. Last year,
the retailer also started to sell sizeable home appliances such as
freezers, refrigerators and washing machines.
Laptops remained the best-selling products, with eMag being the top
retailer of such products on the Romanian market, achieving a 25%
market share.
The company currently has six showrooms across Romania, with the
latest one being opened in September 2010 in Constanţa, following a
nearly 60,000-euro investment. For this year, the company expects
to post 150 million euros in turnover.
"In 2011 we will focus on adding new categories of products and on
organic development of all categories in our portfolio," added
Iulian Stanciu. He says online retail of electronics and IT
products will reach 20% of the overall retail market, around 220
million euros, with the entire market (which also includes
traditional retailers such as Domo, Altex and Flanco) rising 10% to
1.1 billion euros. eMag representatives say last year they had 70%
of the electronics & IT online retail market.
