Romanians spend over 9m euros on video consoles and games annually
The domestic video games market is valued at around 9m
euros, in which equipment (game consoles and accessories) account
for 60% (5.4m euros), says Mihai Stegaru, a product manager with
TNT Games video game distributor, part of RHS Company.
Approximately 20,000 console units are sold annually, while the
games market stands at 250,000 units, with PC ones accounting for
75% in the total number, says Stegaru.
The best selling games are the ones that can be installed on PC
with Microsoft Windows, with the rest of the market being divided
among games for the various types of game consoles.
Romania is a market dominated by PC games, Stegaru says.
The most important launch on the domestic market in 2011 will be
the Nintendo 3DS console, on March 25, says Mihai Stegaru. He added
a line-up of 3DS exclusive games would be launched at that time,
too.
