Electronics and home appliances retailer Domo Retail, the second-biggest player on the Romanian market in terms of the 2009 turnover, has closed four stores and relocated another this year because they were not profitable.

"We closed these stores because they did not meet the performance targets," said Ligia Roşu, marketing manager of Domo Retail, without, however, providing details on a store's performance indicators.

The retailer has closed a store in Bucharest (in the Obor area), in Drobeta Turnu Severin (I.C. Brătianu Street), Ploieşti (Şoseaua Vestului Road) and Cluj Napoca (Emil Isac Street). "We closed these stores but we have others in the same city or even nearby the closed store, as is the case of the Obor store we closed. We have another store in Kaufland Colentina," Ligia Roşu said.

The company plans to open at least ten stores this year, according to Ligia Roşu. She says the retailer is focusing largely on malls, but does not rule out opening freestanding stores.
