DIY and decorations retailer Dedeman, controlled by businessmen Adrian and Dragoş Pavăl in Bacău, will open a store at the end of this week (April 15th) in Drobeta Turnu-Severin, close to Cora hypermarket, and has started recruitment for a new store, which will open in Baia Mare.

The Severin store will be the second investment completed by the company this year after the Cluj store and the company's 23rd store, with the chain approaching the size of the biggest chain, Praktiker, which has 27 stores.

In terms of sales, the two companies switched places as no.1 and no.2 on the DIY market, with Dedeman sales up 40% to 360 million euros, while Praktiker posted 22% lower sales, to 193.6 million euros.

The opening of the Dedeman store at the end of this week in Drobeta Turnu-Severin will see the development of another shopping area, with the town boasting a spectacular development of retail over the past year.

While Carrefour and Bricostore opened stores within European Retail Park, developed by Belgium's BelRom, now a Dedeman store will open next to Carrefour, as part of a recipe already tested on the Romanian market, with DIY stores most often being opened next to hypermarkets.
