The National Motorway and National Road Company of Romania(CNADNR) estimates the completion of the Cernavodă-Medgidiamotorway section (19.25 kilometres) will cost 500 to 700 millionlei (120-170 million euros) excluding VAT, reveals an ad publishedon the e-licitatie.ro

CNADNR terminated the contract with the French at Colas forthis section at the beginning of last week and now intends to putthe respective road up for tender again, with procedures to awardthe contract set to begin at the end of May. On the other hand, thedeadline for the completion of the construction works is one yearfrom the awarding of the contract followed by a two-yearwarranty.

However, chances are rather slim that work should begin thisyear.

"It's very late. The termination of the contract comes with aseries of repercussions on the construction process itself. Workwill probably be resumed next year, considering the section inquestion will be put up for tender again, then there will be a timeto challenge the result so that the 2011 construction season forthis motorway will be over. Costs are high if we look at thingswith the time wasted in mind," said Răzvan-Niculescu Aron, firstvice-president of the Ownership of Romanian Contractors (PSC).
