Charter flights merge

Mircea Vladu, owner of Prestige Tours travel agency, with 5.2m-euro turnover in H1, says travel agencies are embarking on joint campaigns to boost the efficiency of charter flights and that, instead of three planes, only one plane (but at a much higher occupancy rate) is flying to a holiday destination this summer. Vladu explains that the number of tourists has not decreased this year, but that the number of planes significantly exceeds demand. Almost 40-50% of Prestige Tours’ money is generated by holiday packages sold abroad. Plane ticket sales, which brought turnover drops for the biggest travel agencies on the market, account for only 10% of Prestige Tours’ turnover. "We had an almost sevenfold profit increase in the first six months of this year from the same period of last year, to 770,000 RON (183,000 euros) from 118,000 RON (28,000 euros) in H1, 2008. This increase came in the wake of a series of events we organised for our corporate clients," Vladu specified.
