Decathlon set to open at least three stores next year

Decathlon French sporting goods retailer, owning five storesdomestically, announced it will reach at least 20 stores in Romaniain ten years, but the retailer's representatives do not provideinformation about the number of stores due to be opened next year,saying talks are still underway.


Attending the opening of the fifth store of the company, inGrand Arena shopping centre of Bucharest, Florin Truşcă, in chargewith expansion at Decathlon Romania, and Alexandru Dragomir, storemanager, chose not to provide any information about the company'sfinancial figures or investment budgets. "We have nothing to dowith the financial side of the business, so we cannot give you anyfigures".
The company's representatives said, though, that expansion targetedlarge cities, with over 300,000 inhabitants. So far, there arestores in Bucharest (2), Iaşi, Cluj and Braşov. For next year, theonly cities Decathlon officials mentioned are Craiova, Constanţaand Timişoara. They admitted, though, that Decathlon was in talksfor other cities as well, and that plans could materialise no laterthan next year.
