Dedeman DIY product retailer, controlled by Dragoş and Adrian Pavăl brothers of Bacău, last year registered 360m-euro turnover, up 42%, becoming the new leader of the DIY market, according to ZF estimates.

Dedeman's main rivals, Germany's Praktiker and France's Bricostore, posted falling turnovers in the wake of the almost entirely frozen expansion investments in recent years, so that according to ZF estimates the two companies generated cumulated revenues similar with those of Bacău company.

Estimates are based on sales Bricostore reported for the entire 2010, around 140m euros, and sales revenues announced by Praktiker for the first nine months of last year (153.6m euros). Contacted by ZF, Praktiker representatives stated they would release figures for the entire 2010 soon.

"The increase is substantial and surprises many people, but it is owed to the fact that we opened five stores in 2010. Moreover, we had stores opened in 2009 that had their entire operating year last year," Dragoş Pavăl, chairman and shareholder in Dedeman, told ZF.
