German-held Germanwings, Lufthansa's low cost division, which operates flights from Bucharest to Cologne, Stuttgart and Berlin, carried 54,000 passengers to and from Romania in the first nine months of the year, i.e. slightly more than the 1% of the total number of passengers transported internationally. The operator collects 4-5 million euros on the Romanian market, according to ZF calculations, which considers the number of passengers carried and the average price of an aeroplane ticket. This year Germanwings expects a similar turnover for its international operations to last year's 660 million, with the company carrying 7.6 million passengers in 2008, according to Andreas Engel, communication manager of the German company.
