The international takeover, by American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer of rival Wyeth for 68 billion dollars will bring the former closer to the top three players in the Romanian industry. According to the latest reports, Pfizer ranked sixth on the Romanian market in the October 2007 - September 2008 period, with turnover worth 350 million RON (97 million euros), while Wyeth's sales amounted to around 17 million euros. In comparison, the market leader, Hoffman La Roche, posted turnover worth 477.5 million RON (132 million euros) in the mentioned interval. US-based Wyeth, with revenues worth over 22 billion dollars last year, had a representative office on the Romanian market until 2004, when, after the closure of its office, the products were taken over by Romastru Trading, specialising in sales&marketing, as well as in wholesale activities. "We started our marketing collaboration with Wyeth after they closed their representative office in 2004," said Cristian Bota, general manager of Romastru Trading.
