Max Boegl: Medgidia-Constanta section can be finalised in two years

Germany's Max Boegl group, one of the most dynamic builders domestically, says that 70% of the plots of land the Medgidia-Constanta highway section will be built on are owned by the state, which will help deliver the project in due time.

The constructor says it will hit its 100m-euro turnover target this year if it collects the necessary sums for the project related to the construction of the new Lia Manoliu stadium, of Sibiu orbital road and for the project for the construction of Medgidia-Constanta highway.
Max Boegl says it will be able to finish the highway section (of 19.2 km) in time despite the short execution time of 24 months, considering that 70% of the plots of land belong to the state and funds for building it come from the European Investment Bank (EIB). "(...) We have the advantage of 70% of land plots being owned by the state, which should speed up expropriation," states Romeo Botocan, CEO of Max Boegl Romania.
Italy's Astaldi and Max Boegl this year won the tender for the Medgidia-Constanta highway section, with a total value of 211m euros, with works due to be finalised in April 2011, according to the contract.
The contract also stipulates record penalties for infrastructure projects, with the constructor that does not meet the completion deadline having to pay a penalty of 0.05% of the contract value for each day of delay; should penalties come to 15%, the contract is annulled.
Max Boegl last year derived total turnover worth around 50m euros, less than half the level of 2007, when it hit 395m RON (118.3m euros). The group expects turnover to double this year, to 100m euros, owing to works for Lia Manoliu stadium, due to be finalised in 2011.
Since it entered Romania, Max Boegl has also been involved in the project related to the modernisation of Sibiu airport, the modernisation of Colentina and Stefan cel Mare roads, and the construction of Drajna-Fetesti and Fetesti-Cernavoda highway sections.
