SME strategy set to bring 10% rise in exports, number of small companies and employees

A project won by the Economy Ministry, funded with over 820,000euros in European money, will lead to a 10% increase in the numberof small and medium-sized enterprises, SME employees and in thevalue of exports, according to Andreea Paul Vass, adviser topremier Emil Boc.
"The strategy's measures "are aimed at boosting the number of SMEsby 10%, the number of employees in the system by 10%, investmentsby 15% and exports by 10%. Productivity will also rise 5% andcontribution to the added value will increase by 5%," Paul Vasssaid yesterday at the seminar "Mediafax Talks about SMEs" organisedby Mediafax. As for the goal of the strategy that targets theexpansion of SME presence on foreign markets, she says it isfavoured by the difficult situation in Egypt and Tunisia, with biginternational corporations seeking new distributors in theclothing, footwear, pharmaceutical, wiring, and auto componentsmarkets. The Economy Ministry last year launched the governmentstrategy for developing the SME sector between 2009 and 2013, puttogether by the KPMG and Finas Consulting consortium. The draft waschallenged by representatives of the business world, who asked forit to be revised.
