The Romanian advertising market, put at 550-600 million euros last year, will record one-digit rises in the next few years, between 0 and 5%, after in the last few years the growth rate reached 30-40%, according to Zoltan Szigeti, president of communication group thegroup. "We will probably not see 2008's performance for 5-7 years. This year there will be a 0-5% rise. This is normal for mature markets. We grew a lot as an advertising industry over the last four years, but there have been overvaluations. A 40% annual growth was an atypical situation, however we perceived it as being normal. The crisis will bring things back to normal," says Szigeti, whose group posted over 100 million euros in turnover last year. According to him, "the big mistake would be to make comparisons with the past. The future is very different, from now on, we should think in terms of how things stand in 2009 and forget what has been. The soundest attitude would be to start to build as if from scratch." The president of thegroup expects the advertising market to fall 20-35% this year, for the companies' budgets to be significantly reduced in the last quarter of 2009.
