Wizz Air: Even with 20-euro tickets, we are not making losses

Hungary's low cost carrier Wizz Air, which operates international flights from Bucharest, Timisoara, and Cluj-Napoca, will boost its flying capacity by adding another two aircraft to its fleet, amid expectations to see its passenger traffic rise by 30% this year. "We want to increase our Romanian business by introducing new routes as of June this year and by increasing frequency of flights to the other destinations. Even though we have 20-euro promotional tickets, this is offset by the higher prices of tickets booked a few days in advance. We are not in the red in Romania, we are making profit," said Gyorgy Abran, chief commercial officer of Wizz Air. He did not, however, reveal the actual profit and turnover recorded last year, citing confidentiality reasons. According to ZF calculations, Wizz Air business in Romania amounted to 100 million euros last year, having carried 1.6 million passengers. This compares with a 140 million-euro turnover of the company's main rival, Blue Air, which carried 1.7 million passengers. Wizz Air says it expects a rise in passenger traffic to 2.1 million this year.
