Proud to be "Made in Bucharest"

Today, tomorrow and the day after, the theatre Ion Creanga in Piata Amzei hosts starting with 19.00 an event-show - contemporary dance. The author is the Swiss choreographer Katharina Vogel. Casting: dancers Mateia Stanculescu and Florin Fieroiu, actors Alexandru Jitea and Dragos Bucur, from Romania, and Russian dancer Inna Schvartz. The music is signed by Norwegian soprano and composer Kristin Norderval, and the costumes belong to Inge Klossner from Switzerland.

"Proud to be here" is a show made to stand as introduction for the Bucharest Contemporary Dance Festival that will take place in June, next year. The show is the result of the combined efforts of the Swiss choreographer and a group of actors, musicians and young dancers from Romania and Russia. Katharina Vogel's first contact with contemporary Romanian dance was last autumn when she was invited by the Pro Helvetia foundation to a remarkable dance show called "Chief Joseph."

Impressed by the artistic quality of the creators, the Swiss choreographer wished to return to Romania to work on a show with the artists here. Her wish came true in April 2000 when Katharina Vogel came to Bucharest on a grant offered by the Proiect DCM foundation, the Pro Helvetia foundation and ArCub - The Cultural Project Centre of Bucharest.

The show premiered this weekend and it was also a personal premiere for the artist - it is the first time when she is at the same time choreographer and creator of a show and it will be also the first time she works with dancers, actors and musicians from Eastern countries. Katharina says about her work for the show: "I tried to explore the realities of the body and its components. There is only a thin wall between you and me and that wall marks the conscience, time, space and skin."
