Starting next year, one of the leading players in the construction field, Energoconstructia, will expand its scope of activity and take on road infrastructure projects, as well as a project to build its own residential complex, say company representatives. So far this year Energoconstructia has invested some 11 million euros in acquiring top-notch equipment used in the construction of highways, according to its general manager, Constantin Tabacaru. He thinks it will be necessary to put several Romanian firms together in order to raise enough capital to sustain big projects, but he does not rule out the possibility of working with foreign companies as subcontractor, either. In the first nine months of the year, Energoconstructia posted a turnover worth some 36.7 million euros. Cur rently the company is competing with other domestic firms, such as Hidroconstructia and CCCF in the race for big infrastructure projects announced in the last few years. In the last few years, Romanian companies have lost ground to foreign contractors, which entered the market after 2000.
