Deutsche Telekom enters RomTelecom''s turf

Ziarul Financiar 27.02.2006
The sophisticated plans of international development elaborated by Deutsche Telekom and Magyar Telekom, which mainly target markets in Southeastern Europe, have entered the execution phase in Romania as well, through the recent launch of alternative telephony services under the EUfonika brand. Deutsche Telekom thus becomes the first major international operator to become a competitor for RomTelecom on the fixed telephony market in Romania. The Sfantu Gheorghe-based company Cambridge SRL, 100% owned by Magyar Telekom (in its turn 60% owned by the German giant Deutsche Telekom), will provide telephony services to Romanian users under the Eufonika brand, although it does not hold its own telecommunications network. Cambridge will as a matter of fact use RomTelecom''s network and those of other fixed and mobile telephony operators. Cam bridge is the first major player on this market segment, due to the financial power of its shareholders. ZF
