Recas makes $2m in Vampire and Origin wine sales

Ziarul Financiar 20.10.2004

Romanian winemaker Cramele Recas sold almost one million bottles of Origin wine to England for 1.2 million euros and 400,000 bottles of Vampire wine to the United States for $500,000 in the first nine months of the year. England and the US are the company's main markets. Cramele Recas also exports to South Korea, Canada, Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, Austria, Malaysia, Belgium, Spain, Holland, France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy. But these exports accounted for a mere 200,000 euros over the same period. In order to comply with the standards of foreign markets the company invested 1.5 million euros this year in technology upgrades to improve wine quality. From this money, 730,000 euros came from SAPARD funds, used exclusively for the opening of a bottling section with a capacity of 5,000 bottles/hour. The remaining money was invested in other equipment. ZF
