Delhaize, 21% growth in Romania and Indonesia

Belgian retail group Delhaize registered revenues standing at 40.3 million euros in the second quarter of this year, up 21.1 percent against the year-ago period, on the markets of Romania and Indonesia. The two countries also posted an operating income worth 0.4 million euros. At a group level, Delhaize revenues for the first half of 2007 shrank by 0.4% to 9.52 billion euros. The group's operating income increased by 5.3% to 478 million euros, while the net income dropped by 11.2% to 173 million euros. Domestically, Delhaize is represented by Mega Image company owning 20 supermarkets in Bucharest, Constanta and Ploiesti. In July, Mega Image officials announced that they wanted to more than double their store network by 2010, to 50 units. By the end of 2007, they plan to open four units, with another five planned for 2008. Del haize operates two store formats on the Romanian market: Mega Image supermarkets, with areas of approximately 1,000 square metres, and a smaller format, Mega Image City, with sales areas of up to 600 square metres.
