Who is Calin Tatomir, the new CEO of Microsoft Romania?
Calin Tatomir, 46, one of the best-known managers in the
domestic IT&C industry, is going to take over the position of
chief executive officer of Microsoft's domestic office starting
from October 15, and will replace Silviu Hotaran.
Tatomir, who graduated from the Electronics and Telecommunications
Faculty of Bucharest in 1987, ran the services unit of Digital US
company, subsequently filling the position of sales manager at
Compaq Romania; thus becoming one of the most important executives
on the domestic IT market.
Tatomir is renowned for his knowledge of the market and for his
governmental and business connections.
During Calin Tatomir's time as a sales manager with Compaq, the
company won the tender for the introduction of an IT system at the
National Health Insurance Office, worth 120 million euros, one of
the biggest IT contracts for the state at that time.
In 2001, when HP acquired Compaq at a global level, Tatomir left
the company to open his own business, an IT&C consulting
services office, a business he ran until now. Tatomir's office last
year had 26 employees and generated net income worth 87,000 euros
amid turnover worth 1.2 million euros.
"Being part of Microsoft and working in an executive position is a
unique experience and probably the most coveted job on the Romanian
information technology market. Despite my 12 years' experience in
executive positions at US corporations, I believe I'm facing a
bigger challenge," stated Tatomir.
The world's biggest software producer last year derived turnover
worth 24.5m euros and net income of 5.6m euros in Romania,
according to Finance Ministry data, which does not reflect the
entire domestic business of the software giant.
Microsoft Romania for the fiscal year ended on June 30 reported 45%
higher revenues.
Silviu Hotaran decided to leave his executive position at Microsoft
Romania to develop his own business, in the field of consultancy.
He started his career at Microsoft as a general manager of the
Romanian subsidiary, since it opened in 1996.
In 2004, he was appointed general manager of Microsoft for
South-eastern Europe and was in charge with developing the
company's operations in ten countries of the region. In June 2007,
he returned as a general manager in Romania.
