Japanese manufacturer of automotive components Takata Petri, the third largest manufacturer of automotive components on the Romanian market, with turnover worth 245 million euros in 2007, will make 223 employees redundant at its seat belt manufacturing plant in Arad, in order to adapt to the falling production. Company representatives said that Takata had taken a series of steps over the last three months to reduce the risk of redundancies as a result of falling orders. Hiring was stopped and production was cut to four days a week, as part of the reorganisation of the production process. "However, the market has not improved in any way, so we have found ourselves forced to cut 223 jobs at the seat belt plant. The process will start right away and will go through all the legal steps," informs the company. The seat belt plant employed around 1,300 staff before the decision to cut personnel.
